About Me
Hello, I’m Danielle.
I am dedicated to working with women and help guide them through life challenges. My specialties and experience include maternal mental health, anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-esteem, loss and grief, perinatal loss, and relationship issues. I have a passion for working with women dealing with prenatal and postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety and postpartum trauma and have studied extensively in this area.
I am an advocate for women’s mental health, including maternal mental health. Further, I strive to dismantle the stigma of mental illness in motherhood, including the myth of “the perfect mother.” I believe every mother benefits from a non-judgmental, safe space for sharing in which she is heard, understood, and appreciated. My goal is to help validate the myriad of emotions and questions that women experience as moms by using education and unconditional support to challenge the unrealistic expectations that society places on the birth and mothering experiences.
As one of the few individuals in the area with a specialized focus on maternal mental health, I use my clinical training to provide evidence based therapeutic interventions that help women alleviate symptoms such as excessive worrying, sadness, irritability, scary intrusive thoughts, guilt, regret, or shame during pregnancy and postpartum. Additionally, I provide support for addressing the adjustment to motherhood and difficulty with role transitions.
As an advocate for women’s mental health, I provide a safe and healing space where women with any struggle can come for support.
Additional areas of focus include:
Life transitions
Anxiety and Depression
Loss and Grief
Self Esteem
Boundaries and Relationships
Perfectionism and Stress
Trauma
Managing Illness
Education and Training
I attended Salisbury University and completed an undergraduate degree in Communications (1993) and a Masters Degree in Social Work from Florida State University. (2020) I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (#SW22347) with the state of Florida.
I am currently undergoing further training to finalize a certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International.
Diversity of Experience
Professional
I have a collection of experience over a 29-year time frame which includes group facilitation, mentoring, speaking, community outreach, training, program development, and non-profit work. Through these experiences, I developed a strong passion for women’s mental health and made it my mission to assist individuals navigating through life’s challenging experiences.
Personal
Both my clinical training and lived experience inform and guide my work. After experiencing perinatal depression and a traumatic birth, delivery, and brief NICU stay with my first and only child, the desire to serve women in the perinatal stages of life grew. To serve women struggling with similar challenges, I began speaking to women’s groups throughout Tallahassee in 2006 about shame, guilt, motherhood, perfectionism, loss, postpartum depression, and struggles with life transitions. As a result of connecting with women throughout these forums, I discovered an increased need for mental health practitioners that specialize in women’s health, in particular, maternal mental health. Consequently, I pursued my master’s degree and clinical license to serve women in a small private practice setting.
